It’s the name of a Dim Sum restaurant in Taipei’s east district. This Cantonese restaurant dosen’t have too many items but you’ll get a good sample of popular dishes enjoyed by people living in Hong Kong.

The name of the restaurant says it all: Hong Kong Congee, rice noodles, egg noodles and dim sum. The inscription below the name tells its customers that we have been here since 1976.

It is small but clean. Service is fast and professional. Ambience is business casual and price is super good for the area. Rent in this area must be very expensive but 1976 survives with good food, cheap prices, low margin, quick turnover, big volume and many happy customers. Many review sites give it high marks.

It has a wide selections of congee such as  pi’dan sou’rou zhou (1000 year egg and minced salty pork,) steamed chicken feet, shrimp dumplings, steamed pork riblets, roast pork, roast duck and rice topped with meat and vegetables.

Excellent. You can tell it tastes good.

Looks good. Tastes even better.

Chinese sausage, steamed pork short ribs with fermented black beans, steamed Chinese greens and an pan fried over hard egg over rice.

Day old youtiao goes well with congree.

Are you hungry for some dim sum?

I’ll see you at 1976 tomorrow at 11:30. Don’t be late.
